Spearfish Canyon in the Northern Black Hills offers one of the best
scenic short rides the Black Hills has to offer. The rode has lots of
curves, and even more breath taking scenery. You'll want the camera for
this trip!
Most folks start from I-90, Exit 14 in Spearfish. Take the service
road towards Spearfish and watch for the Canyon signs. right after the
golf course on your left. Take Highway 14A South and you're in the
Canyon. Follow the road to Cheyenne Crossing and turn Left which will
take you into Lead & Deadwood. From there you can continue on
Highway 14A to Sturgis, or take Highway 85 going North to Spearfish.
If you're coming from Sturgis, then take Highway 14A from I-90, Exit
30 to Deadwood. Stay on 14A all the way through the Canyon until you
come out at Spearfish.
If you're not too concerned about gravel roads, there is a great
little jaunt to the top of Terry Peak. Incredible views of the hills can
be had from there. Watch for the signs, between Lead and Cheyenne
Crossing.
